Authorities in Egypt say some 100 people are confirmed dead after a passenger train caught fire today (Wednesday) south of Cairo.Many passengers were said to be still trapped in the train which was headed south to the resort city of Luxor. More than 50 people were being treated for injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. But one report says it broke out when a gas cylinder used for cooking burst in the train cafe.
Many passengers were reportedly killed as they jumped out of the moving train, trying to escape the fire.
The train caught fire near the town of Al Ayatt, but continued to travel for several kilometers before coming to a halt.
