United Airlines has reached a tentative contract agreement with the union representing its 13,000 mechanics and cleaning staff.
Chairman and chief executive of United parent company UAL, Jack Creighton said in a prepared statement that United accepted the terms of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Mr. Creighton called the tentative deal a milestone in developing a recovery plan for the company that meets the needs of its passengers and preserves jobs. He says it also puts the second largest U.S. airline on the road to financial stability.
Details of the deal were not disclosed.
Union members are expected to vote on the proposal within the next two weeks.
The airline says the tentative agreement means its jets will continue to operate without disruption.
