Most Asian Markets Close Lower

Most Asian stock markets closed lower Tuesday, led by losses in the region's two largest markets, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Tokyo's Nikkei index fell 2.4 percent (246 points), to close at 9,847. The Nikkei rose a fraction of 1 percent Monday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, fell more than 1 percent (162 points), to finish at 10,840. The Hang Seng rose slightly Monday.
Elsewhere, share prices were lower in Singapore, Taipei and Seoul. Markets also registered losses in Jakarta, Bangkok and Bombay. Share prices were higher in Manila, Wellington and Kuala Lumpur, and virtually unchanged in Sydney.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 133,52 yen in Tokyo, up 1.86 yen from late Monday in Tokyo, and also above its late Monday European level of 132.62 yen. U.S. financial markets were closed Monday for a holiday.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell $1, to close at $297.12 an ounce.
