National Basketball Association veteran Michael Jordan has once again lived up to his superstar status, hitting a five-meter shot as time ran out to give the Washington Wizards a 97-96 win over the Suns in Phoenix.

After the Suns took a one-point lead with under six seconds remaining Friday, the Wizards called time out. Jordan then took the ball, worked his way from mid-court, pumped once to fake a defender, and hit the winning shot. He finished with 22 points while teammate Richard Hamilton led Washington with 29.

Denver's Raef LaFrentz scored on a driving layup with three seconds remaining to give the Nuggets a 99-98 win over the host Minnesota Timberwolves. LaFrentz scored 30 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Denver back from a 14-point deficit.

Miami's Eddie Jones hit a jump shot with seven seconds left in overtime to lift the Heat to a 90-88 win over the Bucks in Milwaukee. Glenn Robinson's short shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim, as his Bucks lost to teams at the bottom of the Eastern Conference for the third straight time.

Charlotte's Baron Davis tied a career high of 38 points to lead the Hornets to a 116-106 win over the Indiana Pacers. Of 10 NBA games on Friday, this was the only win by the home team.

Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 32 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks past the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, 93-90. The Detroit Pistons recovered from an early 17-point deficit to beat the New York Knicks, 101-90, behind 22 rebounds and 19 points from Ben Wallace. San Antonio's Tim Duncan scored 36 points to lead the Spurs back from a 12-point deficit for a 108-99 win over the Golden State Warriors.

In the other NBA games Friday, the Utah Jazz won their third straight, beating the Toronto Raptors, 94-85. The New Jersey Nets had no trouble with the Chicago Bulls, scoring a 106-81 victory. And Boston's Paul Pierce netted 31 points, including six in a span of 17 seconds late in the game, to give the Celtics a 107-104 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
