Uzbek Police Release VOA Reporter

Uzbek police have detained and released a reporter who works for the Voice of America. He was planning to interview a local human rights activist.
Reporter Tulkun Karaev was detained Friday and held for six hours. He had planned to interview human rights activist Tolagan Muradov in the town of Yakkabagh. Mr. Karaev says his house in Karshi City is now under police surveillance.
Talib Yakubov, chairman of the Uzbek Human Rights Society, has condemned the police action against Mr. Karaev.
