Brazil's President Fernando Henrique Cardoso will be in Argentina Sunday to discuss his neighbor's economic crisis.
Government officials in Brazil say Mr. Cardoso could offer concessions on trade tariffs to help Argentina as it tries to revive its battered economy.
Mr. Cardoso is scheduled to meet Sunday with Argentina's President Eduardo Duhalde before attending a summit of Mercosur leaders on Monday.
Mercosur is the world's third-largest trading block. Its two other members are Paraguay and Uruguay. Chile and Bolivia are associate members. All these countries have been hurt by Argentina's deep recession.
Argentina is Brazil's number two trading partner after the United States.
