An apparent suicide bomber has killed himself and wounded at least two others in northern Israel.

The Associated Press says the attack occurred near the Mahane Shmonim army base, the scene of a suicide attack in November.

Hours earlier, Israeli jets and helicopters attacked Palestinian targets in the West Bank city of Nablus in retaliation for a suicide bombing Saturday that killed two Israeli teenagers and wounded nearly 30 other people at a Jewish settlement.

The army says the air raids early Sunday targeted a police compound and the Nablus office of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. There were no reports of casualties. A Palestinian militant group, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon remains in closed-door talks with his security chiefs. The meeting began before the latest bombing. Mr. Sharon was quoted as saying that "Israel has never lost a war, and will win this one declared by the Palestinians."
