The United States has salvaged a 2-2 tie against Russia in the two nations' first Olympic hockey matchup in the U.S. since they met at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics.

The U.S. men took a 1-0 lead at 6:19 of the second period Saturday night, when Keith Tkachuk scored on a five-on-three power play. Sergei Fedorov and Valeri Bure answered with power play tallies of their own to give Russia a 2-1 lead in the Group-D game.

But with just four and one-half minutes left in the match, Brett Hull took Phil Housley's cross-ice pass in the left circle and blasted it past Russian goalie Nikholai Khabibulin for the equalizer.

Earlier in the day, Finland cruised to its first win of the tournament, thrashing Belarus 8-1. The Finns finish round-robin play against Russia on Monday, while the United States plays Belarus. No team will be eliminated during the round, which determines the seedings for the quarterfinal play that begins on Wednesday.
