Asian Markets Mostly Higher

Asian stock markets closed mostly higher Monday, with the key market in Tokyo edging up after a small loss on Friday.
Tokyo's Nikkei index gained a fraction of one percent (45 points), to close at 10,093. The Nikkei fell slightly Friday.
Hong Kong's key index, the Hang Seng, rose a fraction of one percent (41 points), to finish at 11,003. The Hang Seng gained more than one percent Friday.
Elsewhere, share prices were higher in Jakarta, Taipei, Wellington, Manila, Seoul, Bangkok and Bombay. Prices fell in Singapore, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.
The U.S. dollar was quoted at 132.68 yen in Tokyo, down 0.06 yen from late Friday in Tokyo, but above its late Friday New York level of 132.60 yen.
The price of gold in Hong Kong fell $0.88, to close at $298.13 an ounce.
