The FBI has issued an alert to law enforcement agencies in the southwestern United States and Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Winter Olympics are underway, for potential trouble after a suspicious transaction at a major U.S. retailer.

A male, possibly of Arab descent, purchased nine stuffed teddy bears and 14 canisters of propane, described as small enough to fit inside the teddy bears. The man also is reported to have bought 12 packets of small projectiles usually fired from air guns, also known as bb pellets.

Authorities emphasize that the man has committed no crime, but they say the purchase at a Wal-Mart store in California does raise suspicions.

They fear the items could be used to assemble small bombs inside the teddy bears that could then be carried onto airplanes on Valentine's Day.
