Major League Baseball's owners have taken control of the Montreal Expos, while former Expos owner Jeffrey Loria has purchased the Florida Marlins.
Baseball's owners bought the Expos from Loria Tuesday for $120 million and plans to eliminate the team after the 2002 season. Loria used that money plus a $38.5 million loan from Major League Baseball to buy the Marlins from owner John Henry for $158 million. Henry is part of a group that bought the Boston Red Sox last month.
Former Baltimore Orioles star and manager Frank Robinson will manage the Expos. Former Expos skipper Jeff Torborg will manage the Marlins.
