The southern U.S. state of Georgia has issued a boxing license to Mike Tyson, clearing the way for a possible heavyweight bout in Atlanta between the former champion and current champion Lennox Lewis.

Georgia's boxing commissioner said Atlanta is being seriously considered to host the bout. The commissioner said the Georgia Dome has paid a $13 million site fee and June 8 has been set as a tentative date.

Lewis promoter Gary Shaw said he has heard nothing about an Atlanta match but did not rule it out.

Earlier this month Tyson's manager Shelly Finkel said Tyson has applied for licenses in Texas and California. Venues including Manila, Johannesburg, Copenhagen and Beirut have also shown interest. But Finkel said he prefers to keep the fight in the United States.
