Two people are dead following clashes between Muslim youths and police in the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam.

Police officials say security officers were deployed Wednesday around a mosque in the western part of the city to prevent fighting between rival muslim factions.

The officials say fighting broke out between police and one of the muslim groups resulting in the deaths of an officer and a civilian.
