A moderately strong earthquake
hit northeast Italy early Thursday but caused no damage or injuries.
Scientists at an earth science
institute in France said the quake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale and
was centered in the Alps, near the Austrian border.
The quake was felt in Italy's
alpine region, neighboring Austria, and Slovenia.
