European share prices are higher at midday.
In London, the Financial Times Index is up 81 points (1.6 percent) at 5,235, while in Paris the CAC 40 Index is up 64 points (1.5 percent) at 4,429. The Dax Index in Frankfurt is 52 points (1 percent) higher at 4,987.
In New York, the S&P futures contract is up about 5 points, indicating a higher open for U.S. stocks, which rose Wednesday.
Earlier in Tokyo, the Nikkei Index rose 113 points (more than 1 percent) to close at 10,081. Markets were closed in Hong Kong for the Chinese New Year's Holiday.
The price of gold in London is $298.10 an ounce - up 70 cents.
The dollar is mostly higher against the other major currencies.
