Croatia's Davis Cup tennis team has advanced to the tournament's World Group quarterfinals by winning a singles match Sunday over Germany.
Goran Ivanisevic swept by Rainer Schuettler 6-4, 7-6 and 7-6 in Zagreb to give Croatia an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five first round, turning the later singles match into an exhibition.
Croatia joins the United States, Argentina and the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals after those three host countries advanced Saturday by taking doubles matches to build 3-0 leads. The Americans defeated Slovakia, the Czech Republic got by Brazil, and Argentina eased past Australia.
The other four World Group ties will be decided today.
Britain has been pushed to the limit by visiting Sweden at two wins each, while Switzerland has done the same to Russia in Moscow.
Defending champion France leads the Netherlands, and Spain is ahead of Morocco two matches to one going into today's reverse singles matches.
