Defending champion Cameroon has beaten Senegal on penalty kicks to win the Africa Nations cup in a soccer match played in Bamako, Mali, that was scoreless after regulation and extra time.

The Indomitable Lions took the title 3-2 on penalties, getting goals from Patrick Suffo, Etame Mayer and Geremi Njitap, while only Ferdinand Coly and Khalilou Fadiga could answer for Senegal.

Cameroon dominated most of the second half play and got its best chances from striker Pius Ndiefi, who hit the post in the 71st minute following a goal mouth scramble. Cameroon also had the best chance of extra time, but Salomon Olembe's shot in the 93rd minute sailed over the bar.

Both Senegal and Cameroon have already qualified for this year's World Cup finals.
