Vivendi Universal, Europe's biggest media and entertainment company, says sales increased by nine percent last year, to more than $25 billion. The Paris-based company said revenues were helped by movies such as Jurassic Park III and gains in its phone business in France.

Bloomberg Business News reports Vivendi outperformed rivals like AOL-Time Warner last year because it gets less revenues from advertising than the U.S.-based company. Last year was one of the worst in years for the advertising market, including Internet ads.
