Buffalo Scores OT Win over Ottawa

Buffalo's Jason Woolley scored with 39 seconds remaining in overtime Friday to give the host Sabres a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators in National Hockey League action.

Ottawa, which tied the game two minutes into the third period, had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped, while Buffalo extended its winning streak to five.

The Phoenix Coyotes pleased the home crowd with a goal 34 seconds before overtime was to expire, to beat the Los Angeles Kings, 6-5. Colorado rookie Radim Vrbata scored a (three-goal) hat trick while Avalanche goaltender David Aebischer shut down Minnesota to beat the host Wild, 6-0.

The Edmonton Oilers scored with 22 seconds remaining in regulation to forge a 1-1 tie with the Stars in Dallas. The Nashville Predators scored with two-and-a-half minutes left to tie the visiting Washington Capitals at three goals each.

The Vancouver Canucks extended their unbeaten streak to nine games with a 4-1 rout of the Flames in Calgary. The Columbus Blue Jackets surprised the host Detroit Red Wings, 3-2. The New York Rangers scored twice in the second period in Atlanta to get by the Thrashers, 2-1.

In the other NHL games Friday, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks' six-game winning streak came to an end with a 4-1 loss to the visiting Carolina Hurricanes. And, San Jose doubled the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, 4-2, for the Sharks' third straight win.
