A popular television journalist has fled Columbia because of threats to her safety.

Claudia Gurisatti, anchorwoman for RCN television, left Columbia for an undisclosed location, the station said in a statement Monday. It cited only "security reasons" for her departure.

Ms. Gurisatti fled to the United States briefly in 2001 after investigators uncovered what they said was a plot on her life by Colombian guerrillas.

Colombia has become one of the most dangerous nations in the world for journalists. Two journalists have been gunned down in Columbia since the beginning of the year. Many more have been threatened or attacked by leftist rebels or right-wing paramilitary groups during the nation's 38-year civil war.
