Kangaroo will not be on the menu when Britain's Queen Elizabeth and the leaders of more than 50 other countries gather at a Commonwealth summit in Australia next month.

Caterers planning a barbecue for the leaders have been asked not to serve grilled kangaroo -- a popular dish in Queensland -- for fear of offending the distinguished diners.

The resort where the summit is being held, (at Coolum) near Brisbane, also will have live kangaroos and other animals found only in Australia on display during the summit which begins on March 2.

Hotel managers say it would not be a good idea to offer the Commonwealth leaders sizzling kangaroo steaks right after they visit the zoo.
