The U.S. government is warning Americans traveling overseas about the risk of being kidnapped or otherwise targeted by supporters of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist network.
The warning was issued Monday by the State Department, which cited the case of kidnapped American journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan.
It is still not clear who Mr. Pearl's kidnappers are, but the department said there have been unconfirmed reports American citizens may be targeted for abduction or other terrorist actions by groups affiliated with al-Qaida.
Since the September 11 suicide hijackings, the U.S. government has issued a number of warnings about possible further attacks against Americans.
