Milan's famed La Scala opera canceled a scheduled performance of La Traviata Thursday, a day after a heavy glass panel fell onto empty seating during a ballet performance.

All 100 similar panels are being removed from the new Arcimboldi Theater and safety inspections are underway.

Officials say they hope to resume performances today.

La Scala began using the Arcimboldi earlier this month after closing its traditional location in central Milan for a three-year renovation.
