An explosion and fire at an oil facility in northern Kuwait has killed four people and injured at least 17 others.

The huge explosion took place late Thursday at an oil-producing complex (al-Raudhatain) operated by the state-run Kuwait Oil Company near the Iraqi border. Firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night.

Officials say a large leak in an oil pipeline led to the blast. There are no suspicions of terrorism or sabotage.

Reuters news agency reports those killed were Asian contract workers whose nationalities were not immediately known.
