Tokyo Stocks Down

The U.S. dollar rose against the yen Friday afternoon, while prices on the Tokyo Stock Exchange closed lower.
At mid-afternoon in Tokyo, the dollar was trading at 134.34 yen, up 1.40 yen from Thursday afternoon but below its late New York level of 134.52 yen overnight.
The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei Average fell 206 points (two percent) to finish at 9,791 points. On Thursday, the average gained 78 points.
In Hong Kong, the price of gold rose 10 cents to close at $282.05 an ounce.
