Israeli troops,
backed by attack helicopters and tanks, have moved into the West Bank town of
Hebron and seized control of more than half of the city's Palestinian
areas.
Palestinians
say nine people have been killed in Monday's incursion.
Israeli
authorities say the military push was triggered by Saturday's Palestinian
attack on the Adora Jewish settlement that killed four Israelis.

Minister Benjamin Ben Eliezer said the move on Hebron is aimed at a terrorist
infrastructure in the city and not at the Palestinian Authority.
He said troops
have conducted house-to-house searches and arrested 17 people. He said
explosive materials, weapons and missiles were also seized.
Mr. Ben Eliezer
told reporters that the Israeli troops had no intention of staying in Hebron.
He says Israeli forces went to Hebron to "damage the terror infrastructure and
to leave."
