Authorities in
India's troubled Gujarat state have imposed a new curfew in parts of Ahmedabad
city after more deadly violence between Hindus and Muslims.
A curfews was set in
the western and eastern parts of Ahmedabad, where Hindu-Muslim clashes Friday
left at least two people dead and at least 11 injured. The casualties came as
police fired at gangs of Hindus and Muslims throwing stones at each
other.
The French news
agency reports that the Paris-based International Federation for Human Rights
has criticized the Indian government. It says police have failed to protect the
mainly Muslim victims of the unrest, which has been going on since February.
The human rights group also says there has been selective targeting of Muslim
houses and shops.
More than 890 people
have died in the violence since February, when a Muslim mob torched a train
carrying Hindu activists, killing 58 people. The violence in Gujarat stems from
a dispute between Muslims and Hindus over a religious site in
Ayodhya.
