Police in the Russia
are searching for the attackers who detonated a bomb Friday outside a synagogue
in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. Authorities say they are looking for two
teenagers who may have links to right-wing skinhead groups.
Russian officials
have been on the alert for an upsurge in skinhead-related violence around the
birthday Saturday of Adolf Hitler. The Itar-Tass news agency says reinforced
police patrols are guarding foreign embassies in Moscow following threats by
extremists.
Last week, several
foreign embassies received warnings of what was called a "skinhead war" against
foreigners. Embassies of the United States, Japan and a number of African
nations have cautioned their citizens to take extra precautions in light of the
threats.
Last October, three
people were killed in an attack by about 300 skinheads on an outdoor market in
Moscow. A Kenyan diplomat was badly beaten in another recent
attack.
About 10,000
Russians, mostly young men, are believed to be members of skinhead and other
neo-Nazi groups.
