Two spacewalking astronauts from the Space Shuttle Atlantis have successfully completed their mission of getting the world's first space railroad ready for its maiden run.

Today (Sunday) astronauts Steve Smith and Rex Walheim spent several hours in space hooking up power and data cables that will allow the space station to extend the reach of its robot arm via the railroad Monday, engineers will send the railcar on its first test run along 13-meters of track the astronauts installed last week.

The track will eventually span 100 meters. It will carry a construction crane the length of the Space Station as the orbiting laboratory continues expanding.

Sunday's spacewalk was the third of the mission. The crew plans one more spacewalk Tuesday to wrap up their work on the railroad.
