Queen Mother
Elizabeth's body lies in state at London's Westminster Hall. Earlier, to the
solemn beat of military bands, the coffin carrying the Queen Mother was carried
through the streets of central London.
Members of the
royal family, including Prince Charles, his sons, Prince William and Prince
Harry, walked behind the coffin in the procession from Saint James's Palace to
Westminster Hall, which houses Britain's parliament.
More than 1,600
members of the British armed forces escorted the coffin. Thousands of people
lined city streets to witness the procession, the largest of its kind since
former prime minister Winston Churchill was buried in 1965.
The Queen
Mother will lie in state for four days for members of the public to pay their
final respects. The funeral service will take place on April 9, when the coffin
will be taken across the road to Westminster Abbey, where the Queen Mother was
married.
She will be
interred at Windsor Castle in the same vault as her husband King George VI, who
died 50 years ago.
The Queen
Mother died Saturday at the age of 101.
